SOETEN; Roelof 1924 ~ 2013

Roelof Soeten, much loved Husband, Father, Grandfather (Pake) and Great-Grandfather went home to be with the Lord early Easter Sunday morning, March 31, 2013. He will be remembered by his wife of 58 years Maaike, his son John (Jacqueline), his grandson Joel (Johanna) great-granddaughter Ellianna, granddaughters Emma and Kate, and his daughter Melinda (Gil Read). Roelof was the 2nd of 5 brothers with 3 older sisters. He is survived by his remaining brother Jannus (Jantje) Soeten of Heerveen, The Netherlands, as well as other extended family of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews. Roelof immigrated with his wife Maaike from The Netherlands to Canada in 1954 eventually settling in Abbotsford. The first few years in Canada were spent as a farm labourer and working in heavy construction until they were able to establish a dairy farm of their own. Roelof and Maaike enjoyed many years of retirement together. A Memorial service was held on April 9, 2013 at Bethel Reformed Church.
