Robert passed away at home in Abbotsford early on February 23, 2020 at age 75. His sudden passing was a great shock to his family and friends who will miss him dearly. He was born in Merton, England, and was the third of four children born to Robert W. and Vera (Nan) Plumtree. He is survived and mourned by his two sisters and their families in England, Janet (Edward) Bell, and Sally (Geoff) Winning, and sister-in-law Hilary Plumtree.
He was predeceased by his brother Brian Plumtree and son Ian Plumtree. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Rosalind (Kobley, Franklin), his children, Tony (Sandra) Plumtree, Jaqueline (Jason) Fern, and Jessica (Aaron) Pikkarainen and step-children, Deborah Kobley, Catherine (Nigel) Berke, and Wayne (Toni) Kobley. He also will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Nicholas and Maeve Plumtree, Thomas and Amber Peterson, Graeme and Matias Pikkarainen, Ryker and Ladnar Berke, James Kobley, and step-grandchildren, Breena Wirtz, Emma and Ava Fern, and Taylor Johnson.
Robert became an apprentice at Elm Garage in Wimbledon, England at age 15. He immigrated to Toronto and worked for Volkswagen Canada becoming the Senior Service Instructor in the Western Zone in 1974. He was sole owner/operator of Esau Auto repairs in Abbotsford for 28 years, and was very involved in the community with Whaler's Swim Club, Trinity Lutheran Church, PROBUS Society, Harrison Yacht Club, and Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, to name a few. He loved anything mechanical, enjoyed woodworking, loved history and sailing, and anything to do with boats, motorcycles, or cars. He dearly loved his family and friends.
There will be a Memorial Service for Robert on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3845 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford, at 11:00 am.
Donations in memory of Robert may be made to Epilepsy Canada.
