July 4, 1947 - August 8, 2022
The first born child of Edmund and Norma Joy was born on July 4, 1947. They lived in Vancouver for a few years until they moved to Burnaby where they were able to purchase a new home and where Rick and his siblings grew up.
Rick attended Edmonds Elementary School, and went on to graduate from Burnaby Central Senior Secondary. He studied Graphic Arts at Vancouver Community College and apprenticed at Vancouver Bookbinding Ltd. and worked hard to become a Journeyman Bookbinder. He was a loyal employee of Vancouver Bookbinding Ltd. until November 1st, 1997, when he very proudly opened his own company, Advantage Books & Binders Ltd. and Diploma House. He built these companies into thriving entities.
Rick and Lynda spent some time RVing and found a quaint little town in the Okanagan Valley, Okanagan Falls, where they built a new home and stayed for seven years. Upon their return from The Okanagan they briefly lived in Mission then found a home in Abbotsford.
Rick was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February 2017. He had a good run and was his old self until just near the end. He passed away peacefully and at home with Lynda by his side at 9:40 pm, August 8, 2022.
Rick is survived by wife Lynda, children- Mike, Catherine, Steven, step-sons Rob, Andrew, and Gavin Kruck and their spouses Andrea, Marley and Cheri, grandchildren Brodie, Ethan, Emily, Jordan, Ashton, Rylie, and Bronson; brothers Ken and Dave Joy (Cynthia), and sister Nancy Raine (Greg).
Rick is remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be remembered fondly in our condo building for planting and tending flowers, and his furniture refinishing.
The family wish to invite all Rick and Lynda's friends to a Celebration of Rick's life between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at the Legacy Sports Centre and Banquet Hall, located near Abbotsford Exhibition Park, address 3270 Trethewey Street.
