Rev. Ross Campbell Wightman

Our dear father, Rev. Ross Campbell Wightman, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on the evening of February 6, 2017. We are comforted by the knowledge that he is free from his limitations here on earth, reunited with mom and will now be rejoicing in Heaven! Ross leaves behind his four daughters, Gail, Donna Lou (Rick), Elaine (Vince), Rosslyn (David) and their families. Dad was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grand-children, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. All who knew Dad will remember him for a myriad of reasons. Most notably, our father was a man of faith who modeled an authentic and practical example of Christ through his character and integrity. On a more personal level, Dad’s deep compassionate love and service shone through towards his family and countless others; a true gentleman. Dad was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on May 30, 1920, to William Gladstone and Winifred Beatrice (Campbell) Wightman. He grew up with his younger brother Don (now deceased) on the family farm in Waldeck, Saskatchewan. Dad learned many disciplines and principles during his four-year term with the Canadian army that stuck with him for the rest of his life. After his military service, Dad followed his heart and his calling into the ministry. He attended Full Gospel Bible Institute in Eston, Saskatchewan where his relationship deepened with the “love of his life”, Barbara Ellen Lounsbury. They were married on December 22, 1947. Working side by side, they pastored in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Dad and Mom’s passion for ministry extended into evangelistic tours and travels throughout Canada, the USA, Great Britain, Europe, China, Korea and Japan. Married for 65 years and 1 month, they were quite the team! They loved people .… and were loved in return! With Dad’s passion to preach and Mom’s gifts for music and hospitality, they encouraged many! In the last ten years, Dad wrote and published his memoirs “Is a Pastor’s Life Dull?”. We are thankful for the lasting legacy that our father and our mother gifted to us! We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who held Dad in their thoughts and prayers and to the wonderful caregivers and staff at both Menno Place in Abbotsford and TRIM in Mission after our Mom’s passing. Please join us as we celebrate Dad’s life at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly, 3145 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford, BC.
