MAURITZ HAGNES

March 24, 2003

Mauritz Edward Hagnes, born October 11, 1904, Finland, passed away March 24, 2003 at the MSA Extended Care Unit, Abbotsford, B.C.

Ed along with wife, Heidi and two daughters, immigrated from Finland to British Columbia, a place he had loved in the 1920's when he worked in the west coast logging industry.

In 1949 the family (along with baby Helen) moved to the farm at 28904 Fraser Highway - which the family developed, and Ed loved. He was a hard working man in his life vocations; logging, owning a general store, raising mink, working as a community clerk and as an insurance agent and farming. At 95 years of age, Ed moved to Valhaven Home and in January, 2003 to The Cottage Pavilion.

Ed was predeceased by daughter Helen (1980) and his 6 siblings. He is survived by wife, Heidi (Worthington Pavilion) daughters Lilly-Ann (Gary) Huffman of Wichita, Kansas; Delcie (Wayne)Hill of Kelowna, B.C.; grandchildren Cher Hill (Rob McTavish) of Coquitlam, B.C., Nicole (Grant) Richard of Kelowna, B.C. and Malin Huffman of Foster City, California; and many nieces and nephews in Finland.

The family wishes to thank the caretakers at Valhaven who provided sincere understanding, caring and care during the last 3 years, the staff of the Cottage where he felt content for his last 2 months and to the many friends who supported Ed.

Special appreciation to Eunice Suzani, Phil Francis, The Nywalls, the Bakkens and Anna and the late Karl Strobl.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Matsqui Lutheran Church, 5781 Riverside St., Matsqui Village, B.C.
