Maurice “Moe” Fossum

Maurice "Moe" Fossum

August 12, 1932 – November 10, 2019
Moe passed away peacefully at Mission Memorial Hospital, with his wife, of 65 years, Delia (Toots) by his side. Together they raised three children, David (Debbie) Fossum, Cyndie (Earl) Buker and Colleen (Loyal) Goodey. He was a loving and fun loving grandpa to 8 grandchildren and their spouses, and to 13 great grandchildren.
Moe was born in Beechy, Saskatchewan and moved to Penticton,BC at age five. At 18 he joined the Army and went to Ontario. While in the army his family moved to a farm at the foot of Seux Road, Hatzic Prairie. While on leave from the army he came to his family’s new home and met Toots. They married in 1954 and after working in Vancouver for a short time, they made their home back in Hatzic Prairie, then in Mission. Moe was a master carpenter and cabinet maker and spent many years contracting. In 1971 he was hired by the District of Mission as an Ice Maker at the Mission Arena and became well known to all the hockey and skating kids as “Moe the Zamboni Guy”. He then moved on to City Hall as the Facilities Foreman for the District until his retirement in 1993. Moe had MANY hobbies. He coached his kids in hockey and softball and supported all their activities. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator (VE7BWE), played duffers hockey, loved fishing, carving, wood working, took a liking to growing marigolds, gardening, and in recent years raised Mason Bees. He was a musician that could pick up any instrument and play it. When he was young he was a bit of a gymnast and tumbler, and we will all remember Moe’s “Chair Tricks”. Moe and Toots enjoyed travelling, visiting many places including Australia, a few tropical vacations and a road trip across Canada and the USA.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of the 2nd Floor at Mission Memorial Hospital, Dr. Smith, and the on call Doctors from the Medical Group, for the care they gave Moe during the last month of his life.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life to be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, November, 16th, 2019 at Hatzic Prairie Hall (10845 Farms Road). Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to the Mission Hospital Auxiliary with an expression of intent for the funds to be used to facilitate care and comfort of patients on the 2nd floor medical ward and to help the nursing staff in their duties.
