August 20, 1927 - January 18, 2020
Beloved wife of the late Cyril Lentz, Margaret passed into eternity on January 18, 2020 at Chilliwack General Hospital.
Loving mother to Lorne (Sandra) of Everson/Lynden, WA and Catherine (David) Guhl of Kelowna, BC. Margaret is also survived by her sister, Bernice Jespersen of Stony Plain, AB, numerous nieces and nephews and their families and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 65 years on December 19, 2019; brothers and sisters-in-law Allan (Grace) Dreger, Clement (Maddie) Dreger, Norman (Verna and Mildred) Dreger and brother-in-law Ralph Jespersen.
Margaret was born in Edmonton on August 20, 1927 to Rudolph and Emma (Riske) Dreger. Raised on the Dreger farm in South East Edmonton she attended Colchester School where she played basketball and started singing. In her early teens, Margaret came to a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour at the age of fourteen at Camp VanEs. Through the influence of her brothers the family began attending Beulah Alliance Tabernacle in Edmonton. She also followed her brothers to Western Canadian Bible Institute in Regina, Saskatchewan (now Ambrose University) graduating in 1948. She also took post graduate classes in business and music, piano and voice, for one year at Prairie High School. Following her education Margaret moved to Pacific Palisades, California and engaged with the ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship.
With her now so far away from Alberta, Cyril Lentz, her childhood sweetheart and neighbor, put on the full court press, luring her back after a year. They were married by her brother, Norman, at Beulah Tabernacle on June 17th, 1954. Together they farmed and ran a successful dairy operation. Margaret always had a large garden and also tended the chickens. But she was best known as a gracious host, an awesome cook, and baker making incredible cinnamon rolls and yeast breads every Saturday.
Through the years, she taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School, sang in choirs, Ladies trio and other music groups, including the Dreger quartet with her siblings Clem, Norman and Bernice.
Upon retirement, they moved to Abbotsford, BC in 1988. In addition to continuing their ministry of hospitality, they were able to travel and enjoy life with a host of new friends.
Memorial Service will be on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at 1:30 pm at Heritage Alliance Church, 3440 Mt. Lehman Road, Abbotsford. Interment will be in Edmonton on February 22, 2020.
