November 4, 1930 - March 14, 2023
The family of Lorna Elsie Marazzi (née Platt) of Abbotsford, BC is saddened to announce her passing on March 14, 2023 at the age of 92.
Lorna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Edoardo Marazzi; her brother Roland Platt; and her parents Sydney Platt and Elsie Magub.
She will be lovingly remembered by her 5 children: Stefano (Dawn); Sara; Alex (Nancy); Sonia; Elisabeth (Randy) Willems; her 11 grandchildren: Hannah; Emily (Joshua) Doyle; Laura (Adriel) Brandt; Mikayla; Bryson; Karissa; Gabriella; Joshua; Sophia (Caleb) Neudorf; Daniel and Yobdee and her great-grandson, Greysen.
Lorna was born in Westcliff-On-Sea, Essex, England. She attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England and obtained a certificate in Drama and Speech. At the age of 22, her adventurous spirit took her to Milan, Italy where she taught English and eventually met her beloved husband, Edoardo Marazzi.
They were married on May 21, 1955 in West Wickham, England and together raised 5 children in Milan, Italy. It was during a weekend retreat in the Swiss Alps with Francis and Edith Schaeffer that Lorna and Dino came to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour.
In 1976, with hopes of providing more opportunities for their children, they moved first to Christchurch, New Zealand for one year and eventually settled in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.
Lorna was a whirlwind of love, a wild free spirit who always felt most at peace by the sea and most at home amidst the beautiful chaos of her family.
Her travel adventures that spanned three continents inspired a love for the underprivileged. In 1988, she started an English as a second language club for new immigrants to Canada. From that she saw the need to care for the children of the new immigrants and began a kids club that fostered love, fun and bible learning for countless children. This ministry touched many lives and is remembered by many of her former students.
As grandchildren blessed her life, she began a weekly after school cousin's day to ensure that her 11 grandchildren would be forever cemented together.
She always had pastina and focaccia as an afternoon snack; a craft and a bible story to share. The cousins, now mostly adults, maintain close friendships and this can only be attributed to their loving Nuccia.
We remember with affection Lorna's love for anything Italian, her cheeky sense of humor, her unwavering love for her family and for her Lord. She lived life to the fullest and inspired those around her to have big dreams, say yes to adventure and beyond all else cover everything in prayer.
"Ti vogliamo molto bene Nuccia"
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
