MARTIN; Lawrence William George

December 30, 1917 ~ November 26, 2015

John 14:6

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Well Dad, this time the "ice cream has fallen off my cone". Dad loved ice cream and he would often take me for a cone. The caption is from a Dennis the Menace cartoon from over 50 years ago and it had a special meaning to Dad and I. He was a wonderful father.

Dad passed away peacefully at the age of 97, his heart just ran out of beats. Although legally blind and confined to a wheelchair, he was mentally sound to the end, never lost his sense of humour, and never complained. He was predeceased by all his family and friends of his generation losing his wife Gertie, in May 2011. They had been next door neighbours and were married for 68 years. He is survived by son, Gerry, two grandchildren, Michelle Sohl (Jonn), Murray, and four great-grandchildren, Kourtnie, Kendra, Mollie and William.

Dad wielded a mean pool cue, was an avid fisherman into his late 80's and was ALWAYS on time. Rejected for military service, he was a shipyard welder during the war years and then after a short stint at Dairyland was employed as a "burner" at the Dominion Bridge Co. until he retired.

The family wants to thank the staff of Tabor Court and also Tabor Home where he was affectionately called "Hot Lips" because he liked his coffee very hot. You provided him with exceptional care, as he so often told us.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 5, at 2:00 pm at the Ramada Abbotsford.

Your condolences will be approved within one business day. You will need a valid Facebook account. Please email us if you have any questions.
