Laura IRWIN

December 10, 2014

Laura Margaret (Green) Irwin passed away peacefully 10 December 2014 in Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Laura is survived by her husband Charles Ross Irwin; her 4 children: Colleen (Dave) Porteous, Stewart (Taralee) Irwin, Maggie (Matt) Reno, Andrew (Paige) Irwin, and 14 grandchildren: William, Scott, Rachel, Rebecca, Braiden, Sam, Brighton, Alex, Jackson, Lydia, Cody, Sean, Mackay and Brielle. She is also survived by her brothers, Donald (Judy) Green and Lyle (Ardell) Green. Laura was born in April 1950 in Lethbridge, Alberta, to Margaret MacKay (MacMillan) and John Woodrow Green. In 1957 her family relocated to Ocean Falls, British Columbia. Laura attended high school in Provo, UT and Hobbs, New Mexico and began her university studies at BYU University in Provo. After moving to Vancouver, BC in 1968 she met Charles Ross Irwin, and they were married April 1, 1971. In 1978 Laura and Ross moved to Dawson Creek where they lived for 11 years, and then moved to Chilliwack in 1989 and remained there, Laura loved her work as a kindergarten and Grade One teacher from which she retired in 2007. Even after her retirement she taught the youth in the seminary program, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved sewing and gardening, and loved to take her grandchildren out on fun excursions. Above everything she loved to go to the temple and loved working in the Vancouver Temple with Ross, and had dreamed that one day they would be able to serve a mission for the Church. She was a dedicated and always sacrificing wife and mother and a Proud Grandmother. She lived her life to be able to serve those around her and loved when she was able to be a part of the growth of her children, their friends, or her students. Laura was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma in September 2011 and was told that she only had months to live. She is loved by her family and will be sorely missed, until we are able to greet her again. We rejoice in the knowledge that she is no longer in pain, and that she will be able to join her parents and other loved ones, that are waiting to welcome her into paradise. Funeral services will be held on December 15, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Tyson Road in Chilliwack, BC. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Chilliwack Hospice Society.
