Kenneth Edward BURKINSHAW

April 16, 2007

Kenneth E. Burkinshaw went to be with his Lord and Saviour on April 16, his 84th birthday.

Dearly missed by Elaine (Pendray), devoted wife of 56 years, sister Muriel (John) Stewart and brother Bryan (Sylvia) Burkinshaw; children Jim (Joyce Simmons), Bob (Sheila Riddle), Dave (Wendy Micky), Joy (Clyde) Dougans, and Ruth (Mike) Stobbe; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren (with 2 more due soon!)

Born in Berry Creek, Alberta, in 1923, Ken moved to BC in 1930 and lived on Vancouver Island, in Dawson Creek and West Vancouver before settling in the Fraser Valley, mostly in Abbotsford but also in Hope.

Raised on a dairy farm, he enjoyed successful careers in both sales and education. He was a natural salesman and born storyteller. He taught high school in Lake Cowichan, Dawson Creek and Hope and was manager and salesman for Sun Life Assurance and World Book Encyclopedia.

He was active in Abbotsford (formerly Matsqui) Baptist Church for nearly 30 years. His steady Christian faith was expressed in practical love and compassion for people.

In retirement Ken enjoyed spending time reading with the grandchildren, hot tubbing and traveling in their RV all over the backroads of BC.

Service of Celebration to be held Friday, April 20, 2:00 pm at Abbotsford Baptist Church, 33651 Busby St., Abbotsford. For those wishing to donate, a memorial scholarship has been established in Ken’s name at Trinity Western University, Langley, BC
