Julie Hamilla WALTERS

February 18, 2007

Julie Hamilla was born Jan 17, 1949 in Victoria, Hong Kong, and died at 58, in Abbotsford on February 18th due to complications arising from pneumonia. Life was not very easily taken from her. She was indescribably courageous and endured suffering in order to love those around her. We all think our spouse is extra-ordinary and I am no exception, not least because she loved me unconditionally for 32 years. Julie’s exquisite caring nature lives on in my dear children Sarah, Mark, and Tim. Julie, too, has many spiritual children who she poured herself into over her lifetime. Although for the last two years she did not surpass 83 pounds, she was a spiritual heavyweight, a leader of women, a pastor and teacher.

Julie’s short life of 58 years had more packed into it than someone of 85 years. She lived on the edge, was willing to take a risk, and rise to a new challenge. She learnt to downhill ski at 29, to Ocean kayak at 49, and to Parasail on her 50th birthday. She loved the adventure of travel, but the adventure of the human journey was her passion. To come along side others as they climbed their personal mountains brought Julie to life.

It would be remiss not to mention Julie’s courage at embracing her own Everest of pain and suffering. It would surprise even her closest friends to know the extent of her physical and emotional onslaught; it would not surprise her friends at the grace under fire that was seen in this English lady. She leaves behind a void wider than the Grand Canyon.

A funeral service will be held on Feb 24, 2007 at 12:00 pm at St Matthew’s Anglican Church, 2010 Guilford Drive, Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Women’s Ministry founded by Julie at St. Matthew’s.
