SCHMIDT Joseph Tony. Joe passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's on October 12, 2012. He is predeceased by his parents, and is loved and missed by Dorothy, his wife of 61 years, his brother Willie, son Michael (Laura), granddaughters Nicole (Brock), Ashley and great-grandson Rook. Joe was born in the small town of Quinton, Saskatchewan on February 28, 1930. Eventually the family established their roots in Mission where, in 1952, he joined the BC Forest Service and enjoyed the challenges of a career spanning some 35 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting and hiking. He also enjoyed visits to Europe to reconnect with family roots. Since the 1970's, trips to Hawaii were a favourite past-time of the couple, where good times were enjoyed with close friends on the beach. Prayers will be recited on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Avenue, Abbotsford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated.
