April 10, 1928 – Nov. 29, 2004

John was born in Grunthal, Manitoba to Petrus and Anna Martens. As a young boy John moved to Yarrow, BC with his family. In 1950 John married his high school sweetheart Hedy. After their marriage John and Hedy moved to Vancouver, then on to Richmond to raise a family. Katherine was the first, then followed by her brother Bryan. In 1966 John teamed up with John Guenther to start a door manufacturing plant in Yarrow by the name “Guenther Doors”.

As John was an avid car enthusiast you could always spot him driving around town with his licence plate “DOORS”.

In 1986 John retired from the door industry to spend more time “to get to know his grandchildren” and travel the world with his beloved Hedy.

John was predeceased by his two brothers Herb and Jake and his three sisters Agnes, Katherine and Erna.

John is survived by his loving wife Hedy, his two children Katherine and her husband Dan; Bryan; three grandchildren, Brett, Patrick and Camille; brother Walter; and sister Magdaline. The sound of his loving heart will echo through time.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Friday, Dec. 3 at Church of the Nazarene located at 2390 McMillan Rd., Abbotsford, BC. All donations will be given to the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation.
