HENRY MATTIES, of Abbotsford, passed away on February 5, 2010, at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, BC. from the result of a massive stroke at the age of 81. He was born on September 16, 1928 in Slavgorod, Siberia, Russia.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Reimer), his parents, Wilhelm and Aganetha Matties, siblings, Liese Warkentin, Jake Matties, Willie Matties, and Agnes Matties, and cousins who grew up with the family, Abram Matties, and Mary Janzen.

Survived by his wife Margaret (Goosen/Friesen), siblings Sarah (Bill) Staples, Mary Thiessen, Martha Anderson, John (Dolores) Matties, sisters-in-law, Louise Matties and Margaret Matties, children Gordon (Lorraine), Grace (Stan) Hindmarsh, Connie (Charlie) Peters, Orville (Audrey), 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, step-daughter Audrey (Manny) Bublitz, and their two daughters, and many nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom will miss him greatly. Henry came with his family to the Fraser Valley in 1945 and settled in Yarrow. He farmed in Yarrow until 1960, then was involved in business in Abbotsford until he retired. He was a charter member at Bakerview Church. He was gregarious, loved to be hospitable, enjoyed adventure and the challenge of a sale.

Visitation will be held from 7:30 - 9:00 pm, Friday, Feb 12 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the Maclure Road Cemetery. Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, Feb 13, 2010 at Bakerview MB Church, 2285 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. Online guest book is available at
