November 4, 1947 - May 9, 2022
Gwen was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She passed away peacefully in Abbotsford, British Columbia on May 9, 2022, at age 74. Gwen was born to Jean and Wilfred Berry in Burnaby, on November 4, 1947. She was an only child, but had many close friendships growing up that she maintained throughout her life.
She graduated Burnaby North high school in 1965 and then attended Simon Fraser University as a charter student. She studied education following in her mother's footsteps. At university Gwen met Larry Bulat. From their first date until their wedding was a mere three months. After graduation, they toured Europe and returned to start teaching jobs in Fort Nelson.
After two years, they returned to the Fraser Valley buying 5 acres in Mission and building a home. They had three boys: Ryan (Heidi), Jarrett (Tamara), Nathan (Kelly). Gwen continued to work part time as a primary school teacher at various schools in Mission, where she was much loved by her students and colleagues.
These were the years Gwen embraced her faith in Jesus. She and Larry became active members in Mission Alliance Church where they added many wonderful friends and memories.
Gwen retired from teaching in 2003 and moved from Mission to Shuswap Lake. Here they developed many new friendships and were active at River of Life Community Church. Retirement brought the opportunity for travel of which Gwen and Larry took full advantage.
Gwen took her role as a grandmother very seriously and relished opportunities to care for and spend time with her grandchildren. Her eight grandchildren, John, Jackson, Mckenna, Anna, Lucia, Jane, Amelie and Zadie will miss her greatly.
Gwen is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Larry. Their marriage was an example to many. Gwen's faith was also a blessing to many. She was generous with her time and energy, and thought of and prayed often for her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gwen's memory to Abbotsford Hospice Society.
