Gordon Lewis DAVIES

March 1, 2007

It is with deep sadness the family of Gordon Lewis Davies announce his quiet passing on March 1, 2007 in Nanaimo, BC.

Gordon was born in Lethbridge and spent his youth on the family farm in the Wrentham area. After attending technical school he was employed at Canada Car and Foundry in Fort William building Hurricane Hawker Aircraft. In 1941 he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was subsequently stationed in England where he met and married Maria (Ria) Williams. Gordon, Ria and son Gordon Jr. returned to Canada in 1947, and he started what would become an interesting and successful 36 year career with Standard Oil of California (Chevron). Gordon’s career included starting up Chevron’s first sour gas processing plants, consulting for off shore production in the North Sea and finally managing production at Chevron’s South Kabob project. Kabob, at its time, was the largest gas plant of its type in the world.

Gordon and Ria retired to Abbotsford, BC in 1985 where they continued to enjoy their love of traveling in their RV, of antiquing and of gardening. Gordon was a proud Charter Member of the Wrentham Lions Club. And throughout his life he enjoyed curling, golfing, traveling and reading.

Gordon was predeceased by Ria, his loving wife of 53 years, in 1996. He is survived by his son Gordon (Penny) Davies of Courtenay, BC; daughters Heather (Herb) Snowdon and Deborah (David) Pearson both of Calgary; grandchildren Gordon John and Spencer Davies, Catherine and Margaret Snowdon. He is survived by his sister Marjorie Jones of Wrentham and her family. Gordon is also predeceased by his late-life friend Jan McKenzie of Abbotsford, BC.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 9, 2007 at Martin Bros. Riverview Chapel, 610 - 4 St. South, Lethbridge, AB, with Canon Allan McCuaig, officiating.
