Klassen, Geraldine (Schawillie)

(October 28, 1931 - January 26, 2009)

Geraldine (Schawillie) Klassen was born to Peter and Martha Schawillie in Rosthern, Sask October 28, 1931.

She graduated as a RN from St.Pauls Hospital, Saskatoon School of Nursing in 1953. During her nursing career she worked at St.Pauls Hospital, Red Cross Outpost Hospital, Loon Lake, Sask & St.Eugene Hospital, Cranbrook, B.C.

After the birth of her first child she devoted her time to being a mother and homemaker. She excelled at both. The kitchen was her favorite room. Even as the "Schawillies" were blessed with good taste buds so in turn the family was blessed with good cooking and baking. Both became an art form in how the table was set and food prepared.

When the family expanded her unconditional love encircled the children's spouses and then grandchildren; and they know it.

She learned to drive as an adult and almost put the examiner in the back seat as she maneuvered the 4 barrel Cougar through the test run.

Her personal devotions, Bible readings, prayer, and writing out her thoughts were a vital part of her daily experience.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her loving husband of 53 years, John, son Gregory and Kathy Klassen and their children: Joel, Kendra, Brent & Torrey; daughter Heather & Gerry Campbell, son Robert & Lee-Anna Klassen and their children: Breeanne & Nate; sister Marian West & brother Martin Schawillie as well as extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents, a brother Wilfred and sister, Joyce Howe.

A memorial service will be held at Sevenoaks Alliance Church, corner of 2575 Gladwin Rd & Hillcrest Avenue, Abbotsford on February 2, 2009 at 1:00pm. An open reception will follow in the church gymnasium.

Opportunity for the public to view, will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Rd, Abbotsford, on February 1, 2009 between 8:00-9:00 pm.
