George Walter Ulmer

April 1, 2019

July 8, 1926 - April 1, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Walter Ulmer. He passed away peacefully with his loved ones at his side on April 1, 2019. George was born on July 8, 1926 in Neudorf, Saskatchewan. He was the second eldest to parents Louis and Freida (Schweitzer) Ulmer. George met and married his first wife, Ione (Bieber) in 1948. In 1956, the family moved to Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Once there, George worked in the McNair Shingle Factory in Port Moody and then as a mechanic in a garage where he became partner. In 1961, he started with the City of Port Coquitlam as a mechanic and continued his career there until his retirement in 1986 as the Superintendent of Public Works. Following his retirement, George moved to Abbotsford with his second wife and best friend, Faye (Kerr). Together, they enjoyed traveling the world, wintering in Arizona and playing golf.

Predeceased by parents Louis and Freida; sister Noreen Issel, brother Paul Ulmer, grandson Jason Clarke and step-daughter Lynda McArthur. Survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Faye; children Larry (Danielle), Debbie (Terry) Clarke, Mark and step-son Jim (Glenda) Kerr; and his grandchildren, great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. We will miss his kind, caring, smiling spirit; his finger-wagging sense of humour and love for his family.

A service will be held on April 9, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Abbotsford (3845 Gladwin Rd.) with a burial to follow at the Port Coquitlam Cemetery. Donations to the Christine Morrison Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
