May 14, 1933 - June 11, 2023
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of George Douglas (Doug) Murray. Doug passed peacefully June 11, 2023 at Holmberg House with his loving wife, Leta at his side.
Doug was born May 14, 1933 in Calgary, Alberta but relocated to West Vancouver as a young boy. Doug grew up in West Van where he attended school, met Leta, the girl who held his heart for over 75 years and forged lifelong friendships.
After graduation, Doug moved with his family to Reseda, California. Leta soon followed Doug to California where they married on May 16, 1953.
Doug began a small business in Van Nuys, Cal and the couple welcomed their children Dawne and Glen to the family while living in Thousand Oaks, Cal.
In 1966 Doug and Leta returned home to Canada. Doug relocated his business to Surrey, BC and his family settled in Abbotsford. After 25 years in business Doug retired to spend more time with his family and friends.
Doug had no intention of slowing down post retirement, Doug was an avid golfer and was a member at Ledgeview Golf Club for more than 40 years. Doug golfed regularly until well into his late 80's, always choosing to walk the course.
Doug loved hockey. Despite having season's tickets for the Canucks for over 50 years he never got to see his team hoist the cup. Doug passed the tickets along with the moments of joy and years of despair to his son, Glen. Thanks Dad!
Doug and Leta loved travelling throughout Mexico, always preferring the small towns and villages where they were able to mingle with locals and learn more of a country and culture he greatly admired.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Myrtle Irene Wiliams and David Murray and Mom number 2, Ethel Murray.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Leta, daughter Dawne (John McDonald), son Glen (Cathy) Murray, grandchildren Kyle, Danielle (Ryan) Tait brothers Don (Rohays) Murray, David (Sharon) Murray, brother in law Donn (Sylvia) Gardner.
As was Doug's wish there will be no memorial service.
Doug would love his family and friends to raise a glass, tee up a shot, tell a good joke and to always remember to laugh. Throughout the ups & downs of life Doug never gave up and never stopped laughing.
Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the staff and doctors at Holmberg House. The kindness, care and empathy you provided Doug and our whole family will never be forgotten. Thank you all. A special thank you to Leanne Den Braber for all her love and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holmberg House.
