WATKINS; Evan Albert

Evan Albert Watkins sadly passed away two months shy of his 95th birthday on April 17th, 2016. Predeceased by his beloved wife Phyllis of fifty-two years, and sisters Barbara and Edith. Evan is deeply missed by his surviving children Jim (Robin), Jill (Roger), Steven (Amy) and Meghan; as well as his grandchildren Mathew (Minji), Vanessa (Anthony), Adam and Leigh and his devoted relatives and friends. Born and raised in Mission, Evan joined the Canadian army in 1942 and served overseas in the United Kingdom, Mediterranean and Continental Europe until 1946, as a surveyor for the Artillery in the Second World War. Evan took up carpentry and worked in construction in Mission until his retirement. He was involved with the 521 Air Cadet Squadron in the 1960's and 1970's, and he was a life time Legion member and a past President. As an avid fan of aviation, Evan was a volunteer at the Abbotsford Airshow and flew model airplanes for a number of years. A gathering of friends and relatives will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 32627 Logan Ave. in Mission on May 15th from 11 AM - 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
