November 27, 1923 - February 14, 2024
Erna went to her eternal reward in Heaven through the grace of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on February 14, 2024. She was united with the two greatest loves in her life - Jesus and Jake, a Valentine's celebration in heaven.
She was born on November 27, 1923, in Neuendorf, Ukraine, the first child of Peter and Maria Derksen. In 1925 the family emigrated to Canada where they settled in the village of Neu Reinfeld, Manitoba.
In 1936 the family packed up their meager belongings and came to Abbotsford, B.C., which was to be Erna's home for the rest of her earthly life. The Maria and Peter Derksen family was part of the ambitious pioneering group that founded West Abbotsford Mennonite Church.
On November 22, 1952, she married the love of her life, Jacob Tilitzky. Together they dedicated their life to the ministry of the church; Erna in music and choir work, Jacob in pastoral ministry, first at the West Abbotsford Mennonite Church and from 1963 at the Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church, where JT was the first pastor.
In January of 2020, Jake and Erna moved to the Mayfair Senior Living and Care community and Erna is so very grateful for their tender love and care.
On November 9, 2021, Jake passed into Eternity with Erna by his side.
The "Mennonettes" choir was Erna's pride and joy. Erna's life and ministry here on earth is completed. But the song goes on in all its perfect glorious harmony with all the redeemed of the earth and the angels of heaven.
