Elizabeth Jane Beatty

Elizabeth Jane Beatty, born February 21, 1923, died Sunday, January 8, 2017 with her family at her side.  She is now with her beloved husband, Charles, and daughter Margaret.  She leaves behind many people that celebrate her remarkable life, including her three children: daughter Jane (John) Dean, son Bill (Madeline) Beatty, and daughter Louise (Otto) Miller; two sisters: Peggy Wakeling and Grace Vadeboncoeur; seven grandchildren: Jocelyn (Ian), Mike (Bobbi), Laura (Dan), Edward, Sarah (Will), Ryan (Nicole), and Jonathon (Karlyn); and 10 great grandchildren: Gavyn, Cameron, Evan, Chloe, Erik, Liam, Jackson, Ariel, Michael, and Jacob. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to William Irwin Munro and Levina Jane, Betty was the proud big sister to brother William and sisters Margaret and Grace.  After working for the Canadian National Railway during World War II, Betty traveled to Francois Lake and met her future husband, Charles.  She returned to Winnipeg to complete Normal School training, marrying Charlie July 23, 1949 and returning to Burns Lake to start their lives together. Betty’s teaching career continued for the next 48 years.  She had a passion for public education; her goal every child’s right to a good education. This continued through her role as Superintendent of St. Paul’s United Church Sunday School.  Betty and Charles made a loving home for themselves, their three children, and their pets.  They opened their home to the community with music, laughter, food, and always room for one more. Her work with Charles in local business made Beatty’s Cleaners, their funeral business, contract logging and Hilltop Gardens well known.  An independent spirit, leaving Burns Lake was difficult for Betty, but was made better by swimming and dancing at Cedarbrooke Chateau in Mission.  Betty viewed her final residence, Abbotsford’s Menno Home, as her last teaching assignment.  The family is thankful for the tender loving care she received there. A Memorial Service will be held February 18th at Abbotsford’s Cascade Community Church, 35190 DeLair Road, at 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life is to follow in Burns Lake (time and date TBA).  In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice, as Betty’s passions were many.
