Dr. Paul Cloete Jurgens

October 23, 1957 ~ January 6, 2017

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, doctor and friend to many, Paul Jurgens, peacefully at his home on January 6th. Paul was born on October 23, 1957 in Rustenberg, South Africa. He grew up in the small coastal town of Walvis Bay in SWA, where he grew to love the sea and bird life. He trained as a medical doctor at the University of Cape Town and in 1985 he married Liz, the love of his life. They moved to Tumbler Ridge, BC in 1987. In 1995, they moved with their three children to Abbotsford where he continued his work as a General Practitioner providing his patients with the highest level of wisdom, knowledge and care. He was devoted to Liz and his children, Sarah, Emily and Ryan, who made his chest puff with pride. Paul sadly succumbed to Parkinson’s disease, a battle he had courageously fought for 17 years. He faced up to his challenges like a lion and was full of gratitude for his many blessings. In the words of Oliver Sacks, “Above all I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.” A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:30 am at Cascade Community Church, 35190 Delair Road, Abbotsford. We encourage anyone who knew and loved Paul to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson's Society of BC (www.parkinson.bc.ca) would be appreciated.
