~A Life Remembered ~

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Ken Pastro, aged 84, peacefully on May 4, 2024. Ken was born to Elma and Babe Pastro, and he was one of four beloved siblings: Heather and Barry Buchanan, Judy and Ian Chapman, and Michael and Brenda Pastro.

Ken leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, as he was the cherished husband and best friend of Bonnie for 61 years. Together, they built a beautiful family, and Ken will be deeply missed by their three children: Mike (Tania), Brad, and Lindsay and 10 Grandchildren Natasha (Russel), Jessica (Alex), Brydon (Mikayla), Joe (Tyree), Mason, Sara, Colton, Bradley, Bailey and Brody, and 6 Great Grand Children.

He was a man of exceptional humility, intellect and integrity, leaving behind a legacy of academic excellence and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

Raised on Sumas Prairie with the family business of Lee's Highway Store, Ken's thirst for knowledge led him to pursue higher education at the University of British Columbia, where he graduated with his Doctorate in Animal Science. His academic achievements were a testament to his tireless work ethic and passion for learning.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Ken was an educator in Abbotsford first at Fraser Valley College and later at the Abbotsford School district teaching at both Abby Senior and WJ Mouat, Ken dedicated much of his life to helping people understand the importance of hard work, healthy eating, exercise, and investing.

Ken's real passion was farming where he ran a successful broiler and raspberry farm with the help of his family.

Ken will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer be with us, we cherish knowing he helped and guided so many along the way, his memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

A celebration of Ken's life will be held at St. Annes Catholic Church in Abbotsford on May 17th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to B.C. Cancer Foundation, and British Columbia Alzheimer Society.
