Dr. Everhardus Jan (John) Buirs

September, 1925 - June, 2012. Dr. E. John Buirs passed away peacefully at his home on June 27, 2012 at the age of 86. As a family physician, he touched many people's lives in the community through his selfless dedication to his work. In his leisure time, he was a lifelong learner, always keen to know more about gardening, music, art, philosophy, current events, and history. John is survived by his wife, Margaret (Rita) Buirs, his 3 sons, Michael, Brian, and Robin Buirs, 3 daughters-in-law, Julie-Ann Harrison, Diane Buirs, and Betty Anne Buirs, 7 grandchildren, Samantha, Kathryn, Taylor, Brittany, Chelsey, Liam, and Ryan. John immigrated from Holland to Calgary in 1950 and settled in Clearbrook in 1955 where he raised his family. He was instrumental in developing the McCallum Medical Towers in 1972, one of the largest commercial buildings built in Abbotsford at the time. In 1975, he married Margaret Wiebe, and they spent 37 years together. John was a very private individual, and in keeping with his final wishes, there will be a small gathering of family and close friends for a memorial service at his home.

No flowers by request. A Celebration of Life for all those who knew Dr. Buirs will be held on September 22, 2012 at a venue to be announced in the local paper. We love you John and miss

you, as does your faithful companion, Kipper.
