June 8, 1960 - January 20, 2022
Passed away peacefully on January 20, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of Steve Garrett and the devoted mother of Richard and Ben.
She is also survived by her sisters Josephine, Audry, Marylou, Hyacinth and Bernadette, her brothers Brian, John and Marcellus and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was born in Kampala Uganda on June 8, 1960, the seventh of 12 children. When she was 12 she moved with her family to Kenya where she finished school and completed an Education degree at Kenyatta University.
She emigrated to Canada in 1992 where she earned a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language at Vancouver Community College while living in Burnaby.
In 1998 she moved to Langley and married before moving on to Abbotsford in 2008. There she spent 10 rewarding years teaching English to new immigrants with Abbotsford Community Services/Archway Community Services. She was also active in the BC wheelchair basketball community where she volunteered, played and coached.
She lived for her garden and her best canine friend, Shaggy. She was also an avid artist, cake decorator, music lover, sportswoman and lover of the outdoors and nature.
