DOROTHEA MOON (nee REID)

August 9, 2003

Dorothea St. Clair passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9th, 2003 at the age of 95. Predeceased by her husband, Stanley and son Leslie, she is lovingly remembered by her brother Laurens Reid, grandson David (Beverly) Moon, David's mother Ann Moon, daughter-in-law Diane Moon, many dear cousins and her wonderful friends.

Born in Griswold, Manitoba, Dorothea was educated in Manitoba and Saskatchewan before embarking on her career as a teacher. Early teaching years found her managing grades one through twelve in one room south west Saskatchewan school houses. After marrying Stanley, the couple moved to B.C. where she continued to teach in Matsqui Village. 1937 brought the arrival of her only son Leslie and then, following the great flood in 1948 the small family moved to Mission; and built the home where Dorothea resided until her passing.

After retiring from teaching she found time to assist her brother Laurens in managing and publishing the West Vancouver paper "Undercurrent". There were many years when Dorothea and her brother enjoyed extensive world travel and as always there was lots of time saved to enjoy her family and friends. She will be remembered as much for her strength and character as for her love and generosity and she will be missed by all that knew her.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Finch and the staff at Mission Memorial Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 15 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church, 7756 Grand Street, Mission, B.C. - tea to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
