January 13, 1929 - September 6, 2020
Our beloved father passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, September 6 at the Abbotsford Hospital, 4 days after a sudden Hemorragic stroke.
Dietrich was born in Nieder-Chortitza, Ukraine, the 3rd of 4 sons to Henry and Anna (Redekop) Krause, where they lived under the rule of Stalin till October 1943. He learned confidence and resourcefulness at a very early age, which served him well throughout his life. The family moved west with the retreat of the German occupation under very trying circumstances and at the end of the war were considered refugees in Europe. In order to immigrate, the family had to separate so in 1948 Dietrich and his two elder brothers, Jake and Henry, travelled to Canada while his parents and youngest brother, Peter, went to Paraguay for four years before they were reunited.
In 1951 Dietrich met Margaret Rempel in Vancouver and was immediately smitten. They married on September 14, 1952. A large family ensued and during those growing years Dietrich worked very hard, double shifts whenever possible, to support his family. He became a successful building contractor in Vancouver and remained involved in his business till the end of his life. Dietrich and Margaret were founding and active members of Sherbrooke Mennonite Church until they moved to Abbotsford in 2019.
Dietrich had a deep love of God, always reminding us how blessed we were, and a deep love for his family. He purchased a summer home in Oroville that all enjoyed for the past 25 years, leaving us with so many precious memories. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in his life to the end, and will sadly miss him.
Dietrich Krause is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Rempel), son Erich (Gerda), daughters Elsie (David Toews) and Laurie (Willie Toews), sons Victor (Yvette) and Walter (Shauna), daughter Anita (Thomas Wiebe), and son Steven (Kristine), 18 grandchildren and spouses, 15 great-grandchildren, and his eldest brother, Jake.
A celebration of his life was held on Monday, September 14.
