Alton Delmar Lee

We are sad to advise that Del passed away August 30 2017 after a gallant fight against cancer. Survived by his wife of 58 years Elaine, brother Jim in Ontario, son Doug (Tracey), daughter Pat (Gord), grandchildren Colin, Lindsay (Brody), Kathy (Bryan), Michael and great grandchildren Mikayla, Alexandria, Grace, Brady, Kaidance, Lucia, Noralea and Deziere-Anna. Del was born in Fort Frances, Ontario on July 19 1936. In 1953, after graduation from high school, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He served on the HMCS Souix for two years during the Korean War after which he was stationed in both Victoria BC and Halifax NS. During his time in the navy his good friend introduced him to his sister Elaine Losier while visiting family in Mission B.C. They were married in 1959. After the navy Del worked for RivTow and Seaspan as a tug boat mate yet found that sea life had completely lost its glamour! In 1965 he began his career with the Overwaitea Food Group. Little did know he would spend the next 29 years with this company and his family would experience living in many different communities in B.C. Throughout his grocery career he held many general and store management positions finally retiring in 1994 as Director of Pricing at Head Office in Langley B.C. Del was an avid member of the Rotary Club during the 12 years he spent in Squamish and was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Dad was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to those that knew him. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the many health care professionals in Abbotsford that helped Del fight his illness. A very special thank you to the care givers at Abbotsford Hospice for their compassion during his final days. No service by his request. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) in Del’s name.
