After a long battle with Alzheimers, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty McConnell on December 23, 2006. She is survived by her sons Jim (Heather) McConnell, Bob (Margaret) McConnell, and daughter Jodi (Rob) Holm, grandchildren Adele Gelling, Rhonda Janzen, Greg McConnell, Darren McConnell, Vicki McConnell, Kristina Walsh, and many great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Jim McConnell, daughter Shirley McConnell (Lukacs), brothers Clifford Boley, Theron Boley, and sister Donna McKinney. Betty was born in Sumas, Washington on March 21, 1918, and lived in Abbotsford all her life. Betty's family - the Boley's and Batt's were pioneering families in the area, with a number of first's, including the first Reeve (mayor) of Sumas District, first school teacher at Straiton school, and this history is honoured in the area where they homesteaded. She was an avid outdoors-woman, and enjoyed many a Sunday on the banks of the Fraser fishing and hunting for agates. She had a great love of animals, and in later years volunteered with the local
SPCA.
We would like to thank the kind staff of Menno Hospital and Maplewood House for the wonderful care they gave Mom over the past years. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2006 at Musselwhite cemetery (Abbotsford) with a 2 p.m. memorial service to follow at Henderson's Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC
