A man who robbed a 7-Eleven store in Abbotsford while wearing a welding mask has been sentenced to six months in prison.
Clay Williscroft, 34, was sentenced Oct. 1 in Abbotsford provincial court to one count of robbery. A charge of wearing a disguise was stayed.
Williscroft also received a 10-year ban on owning weapons and two years' probation.
He robbed a 7-Eleven on Immel Street on June 24, 2013 at about 4:15 a.m., when he entered the store wearing a welding mask and brandishing a tire iron.
Williscroft opened both cash registers, grabbed a small amount of money and ran away.
Evidence leading to his arrest included surveillance footage from several cameras in the store.
At the time of his arrest, police said that although the welding mask concealed everything but the culprit's eyes, other distinguishing features visible on the video footage helped identity him.
Williscroft has no previous criminal record.
