The Warm Zone women's centre in Abbotsford is hosting a memorial service for Shaminder Brar, victim of the fatal hit-and-run on Riverside Road, on Friday, March 1 at 1 p.m.

Warm Zone coordinator Michele Giordano said Brar was like family to the women who work at and frequent the facility and will be "dearly missed."

During her struggle with mental illness over the years, she was a frequent visitor to the Warm Zone, a facility for street-engaged women.

The service is open to everyone who knew Brar and takes place at the Warm Zone (2481 McCallum Rd.).

Brar, 34, was found deceased by a passing motorist on Monday, Feb. 18 at the side of Riverside Road between King and Vye roads.

Police believe she was struck by a vehicle sometime between Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. and the early-morning hours of Feb. 18.
