The public is invited to attend the annual Vimy Ridge parade and candlelight vigil tonight (Wednesday, April 9) at Thunderbird Square on Veterans' Way in Abbotsford.
The parade marches on at 6:50 p.m., and the ceremony starts at 7 p.m., concluding by 7:45.
The event, hosted by the Abbotsford branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, features descendants of Vimy Ridge veterans placing candles in memory of their ancestors’ sacrifices.
The battle of Vimy Ridge began April 9, 1917 in France during the First World War. The Canadian Corps successfully battled the Germans to gain control of the strategically valuable ground.
