Abbotsford South MLA John van Dongen has been given intervener status in the application by B.C.’s auditor-general to review the controversial deal to waive the legal fees of two former Liberal aides convicted of political corruption.

B.C Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Bauman granted van Dongen intervener status in the Basi-Virk indemnity review, after hearing submissions today.

Van Dongen is a former member of the Liberal party but left in March and joined the B.C. Conservatives.

The Basi-Virk trial came to a quick end in October 2010 when Dave Basi and Bob Virk entered guilty pleas to breach of trust and accepting bribes for confidential information supplied to representatives of one of the bidders for controversial BC Rail sale in 2003.
