An eyewitness said the the suspect in a noon-hour car arson was "ranting" about his son and the police.

A Mercedes Benz sedan suffered extensive damage after it was torched near Montrose Avenue and George Ferguson Way.

Eyewitness Lori Cousins told The News that she, her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend saw a man "pacing" with a red gas can, who then took the cap off the can and walked into a side lane where the Mercedes was parked.

"I kind of got a bad feeling," Cousins said.

Then she saw the sedan begin to burn.

Her daughter's boyfriend ran and got a fire extinguisher and managed to quell the blaze.

Cousins yelled at the man, who then put the gas can down and started talking to them.

"He started ranting, talking about his son, something about him being bullied, and the police" Cousins said.

With the help a man in a pickup truck, they were able to prevent the man from driving away in a red SUV.

Police and fire responded shortly after and a suspect was apprehended at the scene.

No injuries were reported.
