American officials expect a brush fire that broke out on the American side of Vedder Mountain near Abbotsford Thursday afternoon to be in the mop-up stages Friday morning.
Smoke was spotted rising from the area around 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
The City of Abbotsford says it was told a brush fire had burned around five acres by 5 p.m. Thursday. Abbotsford fire officials were in contact with Washington state personnel. By 5:43 p.m., the fire was reported to be 80 per cent contained, with crews expected to be on site until Friday doing spot fire control and mop up. Smoke may still be seen at some point, officials said, although, none was visible Friday morning.
