UPDATE: Teen pedestrian hit by van in Abbotsford

The girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries after collision at Marshall and McKenzie roads.

A 15-year-old girl was struck by a van at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday while using a crosswalk in the intersection of Marshall and McKenzie roads in Abbotsford.

Initial reports indicated that the teen was on a bicycle, but Const. Ian MacDonald has since confirmed that she was on foot.

He said the girl had the walk signal and was heading south on McKenzie Road, crossing Marshall, when she was hit by a southbound Ford Windstar making a left turn from McKenzie onto Marshall.

The collision was at low speed and resulted in minor injuries to the teen, who was treated in hospital and released.

The driver was issued a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

This is the second such incident in Abbotsford since the beginning of the year. On Jan. 4, a 12-year-old boy was struck by a garbage truck as he was using a crosswalk at Bevan Avenue and Ware Street.

The boy suffered serious lower-body injuries.
