The Abbotsford Police Department is asking for more witnesses to come forward after a suspicious fire destroyed an Oakhill Drive home last Friday evening.

Const. Ian MacDonald said several witnesses reported seeing a man running down the street immediately after the explosion, which occurred in the 34000 block. A suspect description is not yet being released.

Neighbours reported hearing an explosion and then seeing smoke at the home at about 7:45 p.m. Crews from Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service arrived to find heavy flames coming from the roof of the two-storey residence.

Approximately 25 firefighters and eight trucks from four halls battled the blaze.

No one was home at the time. MacDonald said the cause of the fire is not known, or is not being revealed.

The Abbotsford News has learned the residence is owned by dentist Dr. Clark Stelmaschuk.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
