A pedestrian walking on the Trans-Canada Highway has died after being struck by a vehicle.

On Monday, at approximately 3:30 a.m. a report was received by police that a man walking across the Trans-Canada Highway, east of McCallum Road in Abbotsford, had been struck by a westbound vehicle.

Officers from Abbotsford Police Department and BC Ambulance arrived to the scene where they found a 47-year-old man who had succumbed to his injuries.

“Fraser Valley Traffic Services, the RCMP Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Section, B.C. Coroners Service, and Abbotsford Police Department Forensic Identification Section continue the investigation surrounding the circumstances of the collision,” said Corporal Mike Rail, spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed for several hours following the incident, but reopened to traffic in both directions later in the morning.
