Environment Canada has posted alerts for heavy rain in B.C. Grey areas indicate special weather statements and yellow indicates possible severe thunderstorms.

Environment Canada has ended its special weather statement for Fraser Valley.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Heavy rains are expected to hit the Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford, later today, according to Environment Canada's forecast.

Environment Canada has posted special weather statements online, indicating that a low pressure system just off the Washington coast will move inland tonight.

Moisture-laden air is now moving northward from Washington and will produce locally heavy rain at times over the Lower Mainland and Southern Vancouver Island. The chance of heavy rain is greatest tonight.

Some computer models are suggesting excessive rain that may trigger short-fuse rainfall warnings across the Lower Mainland and Southern Vancouver Island later today.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.
