Trio of break-ins at car repair businesses

Abbotsford automotive repair businesses are being warned to lock up their valuables after a trio of break-ins over the weekend.

Abbotsford automotive repair businesses are being warned to lock up their valuables after a trio of break-ins over the weekend.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said that in each case the thief was after cash, but was successful in only one of the locations. At one of the other sites, an empty cash box was taken, and at the third, the culprit rifled around but didn't find any money.

Other items such as valuable tools and keys to customers' vehicles were not touched at any of the businesses.

The break-ins took place in the 2000 block of Abbotsford Way, the 31000 block of Peardonville Road, and the 1800 block of McCallum Road.

Only one of the businesses had an alarm, which was sounded at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday. At all three sites, the thief tampered with a lock to get into the building.

MacDonald advised businesses to leave empty cash boxes in plain view and to lock up valuables to discourage thieves from breaking in.
