Transit police seized a long list of bear spray, knives, drugs and stolen merchandise during a three-day operation in and around a Burnaby transit hub last month.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police say they deployed a combination of uniformed and plain-clothed officers at the Metrotown SkyTrain station and the Metropolis at Metrotown shopping mall on April 13, 19 and 21.

Over the three days, they seized 23 weapons – including knives, bear spray, a baton and replica firearms –, 142 grams of fentanyl, six grams of methamphetamine and $9,605 in stolen goods. They also arrested 26 people for various offences, such as outstanding warrants, weapons possession, theft, drug trafficking and driving violations.

The transit police team said focusing in on the area was important as the Metrotown SkyTrain station has the second heaviest passenger traffic in the region and the Metrotown mall is the largest in B.C.
