UPDATE: One man injured after train, car collide in Deroche

Mission RCMP say the driver, a 55-year-old man, was sent to hospital

One man was injured and taken to hospital after a collision between a car and a CP train on Wednesday morning in Deroche.

According to Mission RCMP, a 55-year-old man was driving on Brooks Road when he either became stuck on, or was backing up on, the tracks when a train, that had slowed down while traveling through town, struck the vehicle.

Police said, at this point, the incident is considered to be “driver error.”

Mission RCMP, BC Ambulance Services and the North Fraser Fire Department, along with the Agassiz Fire Department were all called to the scene.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, helped from the vehicle and taken to Abbotsford Hospital with undetermined injuries aside from soft tissue injuries.

RCMP said there doesn’t appear to be any alcohol involved.

Commuters in Deroche faced long delays as the stopped train was blocking the tracks across the Lougheed Highway. However, the scene has now been cleared and traffic has returned to normal.
