This Tiffany reproduction lamp by artist Adrian Renkers was among the items stolen during a break-in at Kariton Art Gallery.

A Tiffany reproduction lamp valued at about $1,800 was among the items stolen during a break-in at Kariton Art Gallery in Abbotsford early Friday morning.

Gail Gromaski of the Abbotsford Arts Council said someone broke into the boutique between 2 and 3 a.m. by breaking a window.

The lamp, featuring a poppy design, was created by local artist Adrian Renkers. Also taken were a black sashay scarf and a beaded brown scarf, both by local artist Irene Constantineau and valued at $40 each.

Another Tiffany reproduction lamp created by Renkers and a cold-wax painting by another artist were damaged during the break-in, but can possibly be repaired, Gromaski said.

She is asking for the public's help in recovering the stolen items.

"Not only do these pieces take a lot of time and money to produce, but the artists put a piece of themselves into each one, making the theft more of a matter of personal, rather than monetary, loss."

She said the Kariton Art Gallery board of directors will be working with the Abbotsford Police crime prevention department to enhance the safety and security of the site for artists and guests.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
