A car that was spotted by police travelling at about 130 km/h on Downes Road in Abbotsford on Tuesday night led to more than just recommended speeding charges for the driver and his passenger.
Abbotsford Police Sgt. Judy Bird said, just before 9 p.m., a patrol officer spotted a Nissan Altima going more than double the speed limit and passing another vehicle on a double solid line.
The officer pulled over the car on Glenmore Road, just north of Downes Road near Northview Community Church.
The two male occupants, both 21, were arrested. Bird said a search of the vehicle turned up cellphones, suspected oxycodone tablets, a large amount of Canadian currency, and a stolen firearm.
She said drug, firearm and driving charges have been recommended. The men’s names are not yet being released because charges haven’t been formally laid.
Bird said the incident is still under investigation.
