Six Abbotsford students are participating this week in the Skills Canada competition in Saskatoon, Sask.
They are among 500 students from all regions of Canada who are competing in 40 areas.
The students qualified for the nationals after winning gold medals at the BC Skills Competition in April at Abbotsford’s Tradex facility.
Students who win gold medals at the national event, which began Wednesday and ends tomorrow (Saturday), advance to the WorldSkills Competition from Aug. 12 to 15 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Abbotsford students taking part in the national event are:
• Grace Choi and Ryan White of Robert Bateman Secondary in 2D computer animation;
• Kurtis Mar and Noah Dueck of Robert Bateman in 3D computer animation;
• Alex Hintz of Abbotsford Senior in architectural CAD; and
• Nick Huebert of W. J. Mouat in electrical wiring.
The contest areas include carpentry, culinary arts, fashion technology, welding, hairdressing and more.
