A large piece of equipment known as a grinder, used in road resurfacing, flipped while working on Highway 1 near the McCallum overpass on Thursday, just before noon.
The machine leaked fluids and required a hazardous materials response, but firefighters and ambulance officials who responded to the call were able to quickly clear the scene. The vehicle is owned by Winvan Paving Ltd.
Highway 1 westbound at the McCallum Road Interchange is single lane until 5:00 p.m. tonight for the vehicle's recovery in median. Drivers are asked to slow down and watch for traffic control personnel and construction workers.
