Public schools closed in Abbotsford and Mission

The forecast for freezing rain has prompted the closure of all public schools in Abbotsford and Mission for Friday, Jan. 20.

All public schools in Abbotsford and Mission have been closed to students and staff today (Friday, Jan. 20), due to the forecast warning for freezing rain.

As well, all campuses of University of the Fraser Valley have been closed. Private schools that have announced closures in Abbotsford are Cornerstone Christian School, Mennonite Educational Institute, Dasmesh Punjabi, St. John Brebeuf high school, and St. James elementary.

The neighbouring Chilliwack school district has also closed all public schools, while Langley remains open.

Environment Canada has issued a storm warning, with periods of snow expected to change to freezing rain this morning.

Temperatures were sitting at -7 C, as of 6 a.m.. and are expected to reach a high of -1. The forecast for tomorrow and the coming days is for rain and higher temperatures.
