Abbotsford Police are reporting a spike in thefts from vehicles, and the culprits are scoring some better-than-usual goods.
Const. Ian MacDonald said the thieves are making off with items such as laptop computers, purses, iPhones and iPads. They're lifting them both from locked and unlocked vehicles.
"What people are leaving in their cars right now is unbelievable," MacDonald said.
Police recorded 23 such incidents during the week of July 24 to 31.
During the previous week, 11 thefts from vehicles were reported, but MacDonald said the items stolen were of lesser value, such as loose change and cellphone chargers.
All the thefts have occurred in various parts of Abbotsford and are not limited to one specific area.
MacDonald said police are at a loss to explain why more people seem to be leaving expensive items in plain view.
